why, Mr. Principal? I am no longer a product of my self discovery as a student– I am a product of AP pressure and a schedule which does not ensure my flexibility or accommodate my growth into the human I will become when I walk out these doors on Fairmount Blvd. I am a teenager, I have a life.
I am the student of Beachwood High School.
Question: is the benefit worth our gain? what is this schedule change promoting? Is it promoting a force for students to get the extra help they need ?
Follow Up: The extra help we need may not be in the classroom, and if the ultimate goal is to obtain that extra help in the classroom– in the real world, free advisory not gifted to us as a courtesy of an attempt to assist our grades. The MAJORITY of the kids in our high school remain in the cafeteria, library, or community room during lunch or academy periods. So what's the difference ?
Question: How will/has this impacted the lives of athletes?
Scenario: I play a sport, maybe two. I vow to commit my time to being on time to practice, and giving 110% in competition. By the time I get home, it's 7:30 P.M. I'm tired, I'm so tired I may just fall asleep the minute I open my textbook to complete my first homework assignment. Studying and losing my mind to make sure my grades are top tier, I don't finish until 10 P.M. Which means I don't fall alseep until at least 10:30 P.M. Oh, and my parents can't afford to drive me to school in the morning– the bus comes at 6:30, so I have to be ready by 6:20, which means I have to be up by 6 go make sure I treat my body properly, all to start the cycle again at 7:35. So guys– let's do the math. That;s 7.5 hours of sleep, assuming I'm not anxious or in my own head– but we all know that at least 3 out of 5 students in our high school are. For those of us who are athletes in training, you might just be out of luck; this is not sufficient to allow your bodies to recover and muscles to relax.
Even on Wednesday's, a day which grants students a 50 minute time window to meet with teachers and strengthen their grades, why is it a teacher cannot have us in their room the entire time ? So many more questions, and thoughts which remain unanswered.
